See below in plays for more context, but Oscar Wilde's Picture of Dorian Gray fits here.
Juxapose this lab to the Servant's Lab. They have similar equipment heavy Mechanicus/Dieselpunk machinery but this lab is clean, military, and antiseptic like the Empire in Star Wars.
Remember to get reference from bulldozers, mining equipment, anything called an "earth mover" too.
Play: There is a sense of chance encounters here with Davoust and Clarissa. Davoust's fateful curiosity about the cult and its methods initially help the Census Office as they pursue the same goals, but then lead to disaster. The Tempest by Shakespeare.
Read below notes again. I got carried away with an idea in this one- Davoust having "access" is kinda cool. Keep the idea, but perhaps put it elsewhere. Clarissa doesn't run into Pali in this draft and Davoust doesn't get interested in anything, she just tells Clarissa to spill the beans. You can do better than this- have her make a discovery or ask pointed questions. Davoust is not "read-in" and doesn't know who Clarissa is.
This scene is about meeting Davoust and getting her interested in the cult and its methods. It is also Clarissa's last physical contact with the Census Office before initiation. It is also the last time she sees Pali, who is on duty. Have her meet Pali by chance outside the Armory where the charging station Clarissa is going to steal in The Raid is kept. Pali was getting her weapon charged before going no watch. I also need something her between her and Davoust. Some clue or lore as to the elements. I am not sure yet.
Clarissa is here because of her unorthodox encounter at the private show and the contact with the cultists. Davoust detects the residue of Water element, but determines that no harm was done and it is little different from similar contact by technicians with raw elements in the Conduit Plant. Her body would normalize quickly.
