I asked ChatGPT for references based on a character coming to an understanding (if not a liking) of something they feared or hated. This is Clarissa with the Ergon. This is important, I am not sure why yet. What does Clarissa discover here with the Ergon? Does it lead her to the desert later? To drink from the River of Dreams which flows out from the Scar?
I think it has been decided: the Ergon is of the desert people and has failed in their mission (man or woman? I don't know yet). This person sees far and has wisdom, but Clarissa is in too much pain to see it.
