Story Notes

Clarissa is very conflicted here. She gets what she wanted, but it has cost her everything- Pali, her worldview, maybe her sanity- and the Census Office has stripped itself of the values that she was fighting to uphold. She has lost her anchors. She fights the Ergon, seeing her cellmate in each of them. Great visual- have his face or apparition appear here somehow.

Idea for her sanity slipping- she feels the pull of habit despite the claws of the Pool being removed. There are still scars and voids where living tissue used to be. How does the Pool pull on her? Or is it the void of having to make her own decisions? Not having an obvious framework to fall back on? That makes sense on some level.

She really starts to integrate here. She sees that the Ergon need to be repeled, but she needs to leave. She also shows she can do it. She has always had it in her, but didn't trust herself.
